Deadpool Fan Event

On February 8th 2016, Fox debuted their latest box office hit, Deadpool. This film tells the story of Wade Wilson (Reynolds) who was Special Forces operative until the evil Ajax (Skrein) tortures, disfigures and transforms him into someone unrecognizable: Deadpool. In addition to accelerated healing powers, Deadpool is left with a sadistic sense of humor and a determination for revenge. With the help from other mutated allies Negasonic Teenage Warhead(Hildebrand) and Colossus(Kapicic), Deadpool uses his abilities to hunt down the man who did this to him.

Instead of a regular premiere, Fox decided to invite the dedicated Deadpool fans to the screening. Fox enlisted the help of THE FIRM, formerly known as Samantha Sackler Productions, to create a special fan event inside the AMC Empire 25 Theater in New York. Sackler wanted to design an event that allowed the filmmakers, creators and stars of the film to express their appreciation to the loyal and devoted fans.

Sackler created a fan viewing area near the carpet with a 16ft stage so that fans would be able to see the stars walk the carpet even after they had left the stage. The fan event was hosted by Z100’s Garrett Vogel and featured interviews with the stars of the film as well as games for the fans. Fans were encouraged to come in their best Deadpool costume to compete in a “Beauty Pageant.” The 10 winners were crowned by the Deadpool creators themselves, had their photo taken with Reynolds and received priority seating in the theater as well.

Despite the cold snowy conditions, fans lined up outside the theater dressed in some of the most incredible (and hilarious) Deadpool costumes. Even the creators of the series, Rob Liefeld and Fabian Nicieza, were in stiches!  In addition to the beauty pageant fans were able to compete in a Deadpool Trivia contest for the chance to win prizes such as Deadpool hoodies, backpacks, toys and headphones.

Sackler and her team created red carpet and Step and Repeat that was perfectly suited for this crazy event.  Sackler created a 20ft long white Step and Repeat with the Deadpool logo littered across it. The Step and Repeat also featured more than 200 empty cans of Mike’s Hard Lemonade that spelled out ‘Deadpool’ across its length. And as the cherry on top, Sackler added a life size cutout of Deadpool, so that (true to character) he appeared to be lounging lazily atop the wall.

Following the screening, Talent and Filmmakers were invited to the Atlantic Grill to enjoy an intimate dinner. Written above the bar was a replica of the iconic “Sister Margaret’s Dead Pool” from which the character was named after. Additionally, Sackler brought in a Deadpool cake in order to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series. Guests marvel-ed at the success of the event and toasted to another successful premiere.
